German shepherds (also called GSD, German Shepherd Dog) are ranked as the second-most aggressive dog in the USA, just behind pit bulls. Of course, like all other dogs breeds on this site, this dog breed is not aggressive. They are currently ranked as the second most popular dog breed in the USA. In personality, German Shepherd are very smart and confident.
History[]
In the 1850s in Europe, people were attempting to standardize dog breeds. Dogs were being bred for specific traits that assisted in their jobs of herding sheep and protecting flocks. In Germany, this was practiced within local communities, where shepherds bred and selected. It was noticed that one specific dog breed had the necessary skills to herd sheep, like intelligence, stamina, and speed and keen sense of smell.

German shepherds are highly intelligent and very athletic. If you want a german shepherd, you will need to:
- Have a lot of time
- Have enough energy to exercise your dog every day
- Tolerate shedding and fur in your house or apartment
- Make sure you keep your dog busy(GSDs became destructive when they are bored)
- Have calm and assertive energy. German Shepherds can be very dominant
German Shepherds are very loyal and courageous. Perhaps they are known best as the strong dogs that are beside policemen and policewomen, the search-and-rescue dogs, valued for its focus and intelligence. Maybe they are thought of as vicious guard dogs. Even though they were working dogs, bred for herding, they make outstanding companions. They are very patient and willing to learn. They are bold but not aggressive.
